Novaya Zhizn
1917-1918

Non-factional social-democratic daily newspaper founded by Maxim Gorky, aimed to overcome old factional divisions between Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. Its political positions most closely resembled those of Julius Martov's faction of Menshevik-Internationalists. The paper was published in Petrograd beginning from April 18 (May 1), 1917. After the October Revolution it agitated against the Soviet government. From June 1, 1918, it appeared in two editions-in Petrograd and Moscow. Both were closed down in July 1918.
