(January 1923 - October 1924)CONTENTS BY ISSUE
Soviet Russia which began publication on June 7, 1919, replaced another weekly publication of the Russian Soviet Government Bureau (RSGB) titled The Weekly Bulletin of the Bureau of Information of Soviet Russia. This weekly bulletin was first published on March 3, 1919 and continued to be published regularly for 13 issues with the last issue dated May 26th 1919. At this time, the name was changed to Soviet Russia.
Soviet Russia continued to be published as the official organ of the RSGB until Vol. 5 No. 11, March 12, 1921 when the sub-head under the title Soviet Russia there appears "A Weekly Journal of Information" and reference to the RSGB is no longer evident. This change took place during the heightened repression by the U.S. government during the infamous "Palmer Raids".
With Volume 6, No. 2, dated February 1, 1922, Soviet Russia becomes to the official organ of The Friends of Russia. The Friends of Soviet Russia (FSR) was formally established in the United States on August 9, 1921 as an offshoot of the American Labor Alliance for Trade Relations with Soviet Russia (ALA). It was launched as a "mass organization" dedicated to raising funds for the relief of the extreme famine that swept Soviet Russia in 1921, both in terms of food and clothing for immediate amelioration of the crisis and agricultural tools and equipment for the reconstruction of Soviet agriculture.
While several publications were established as organs of the FSR, in 1924, Soviet Russia Pictorial, The Liberator, and Labor Herald were all shut down after their last (October, 1924) issue and folded into Workers Monthly.
