Translator’s note: The following were the headlines of the French Communist Party’s official journal, “l'Humanité” during the days of the insurrection in Paris and the first days of the Liberation.

Issue no. 1, Monday, August 21, 1944

THE BATTLE OF FRANCE AND OF PARIS CONTINUES!
The Allies must be greeted in the liberated capital by the levée en masse of its children

Issue no. 2, Tuesday August 22, 1944

DEATH TO THE KRAUTS AND TO TRAITORS!
Parisians, Rise Up in Combat!

Reject the appeals to cowardice dictated by the Germans themselves;
Set the PATRIOTIC MILITIAS into action;
Mass demonstrations to allow the entire people took at fortifying mobilize for combat,
Everything is a weapon for those who want to fight.
POPULAR INSURRECTION! GENERAL STRIKE!

Win the battle of Paris and hasten the complete deliverance of the Fatherland!

Issue no. 3, Wednesday August 23, 1944

All of Paris to the barricades!

IN EVERY ARRONDISSEMENT THE COMBAT IS BECOMING FIERCE.
The commandant of the FFI for greater Paris calls for the GENERAL UPRISING OF PARISIANS
It is necessary that everyone: men, women, and children work at fortifying streets, houses, and public buildings; let the entire population participate with courage and abnegation and support the glorious Forces Françaises de l'Intérieur. Form everywhere your groups of PATRIOTIC MILITIAS! Attack is the best defense. Harass the enemy!
NOT A SINGLE KRAUT MUST LEAVE INSURGENT PARIS ALIVE

IN ORDER TO BE DONE WITH THE EXECRATED INVADER:

Issue no. 5, Friday August 25, 1944

The French army of General Leclerc enters Paris, completing the breaking of the chains.
Long live immortal France!

Honor to the troops that are repelling the Hitlerite hordes!
Long live the Paris of barricades, where the fighting is fierce!
Glory to the FFI, of which the Francs-Tireurs et Partisans are the shock troops!
EVER STRONGER BLOWS AGAINST THE STAGGERING KRAUT!

Issue no. 6, Saturday August 26, 1944

The final enemies annihilated in the capital!
All day the FFI and the troops fought to reduce the German pockets.

FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER OF OCCUPIED FRANCE THE PEOPLE IN ARMS IS RISING UP TO EXTERMINATE THE INVADER.

On the Champs Elysées, at the Concorde, at the Hôtel de Ville

All day the FFI and the troops fought to reduce the German pockets.

VICTORIOUS PARIS SALUTES, IN THE PERSON OF GENRAL DEGAULLE, FRANCE MAINTAINED, THE VICTORIOUS RESISTANCE, the armed struggle that saved the country

The people of the capital demonstrated, in the joy of re-found liberty, its determination to see the war continued until the enemy is crushed, traitors punished, and the country united and master of its future.
The bandits of the Fifth Column continue the perfidious attacks against the patriots, but they are killed without mercy by the troops, the FFI, and the Patriotic Militias, into whose ranks the Parisians are rushing.
