Lenny Henry is a revelation as Troy Maxson, a former star of the segregated baseball leagues whose life is blighted by racism.
In Pittsburgh in 1957 “the hot winds of change had not yet begun to blow full”.
Bitter at a career thwarted by racism, he is now a refuse worker. He has demanded the right to be a driver – a white only job.
But his bitterness and parental protectiveness make him deny his son Cory his own chance at sporting success and a college education.
This is a new production of African American writer August Wilson’s play first produced in 1983.
