International Socialism, Summer 1968

The Editor

Letter to Readers

From International Socialism, No.33, Summer 1968, p.17.
Transcribed & marked up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.

Alasdair MacIntyre has resigned from the Editorial Board of IS. He offers no extended account of why he is resigning now, rather than earlier or later, nor has he accepted our invitations to lay out his criticisms of the journal in our columns. But resigned he has.

For the first time, we are publishing a list of IS branches in this issue of the journal. The reasons for this are stated in the first editorial, and the list can be found inside the back cover. Our contributors this time include Paul Foot, already known to regular readers by his article on Immigration and the Labour movement in IS 22, and to a much wider audience, by his Penguin on the same subject, and his Private Eye contributions; Alan Rooney is an adult education tutor organiser in trade union studies on the Humberside, Secretary of the Hull Vietnam Solidarity Campaign, contributes to Humberside Voice and is undertaking more detailed research on the aircraft industry; Manfred Buddeberg is a sociology student at Frankfurt University and an activist in the Frankfurt SDS; Ian Macdonald, 29, is a member of the Islington Tenants’ and Residents’ Association and a co-author of the GLC Tenants’ Action Committee pamphlet, Not a Penny on the Rents.
