International Socialism, Spring 1966

Editorial 3

The Centre for Socialist Education

From International Socialism, No.24, Spring 1966, p.5.
Transcribed & marked up by Einde O’Callaghan for ETOL.

The partial demoralisation of the Left which is one of the first results of the politics of the Labour Government provides the immediate context for the initiative taken for the formation of the Centre for Socialist Education, and for this reason the CSE is to be even more warmly welcomed than it would have been without that context. As a focal point for broad Left activity, to polarise opinion, put out roots into the industrial working class, to marry the immediate concrete demands of workers facing a Labour Government to the long term perspective of socialism, and, above all, to evaluate firmly and clearly the lessons of the Labour Government, the CSE has high promise, and this journal wishes to associate itself in every way with that promise: no-one on the Left should remain outside the CSE. IS offers its columns to those CSE members who would like to discuss the issues raised by the Centre and which are our continuing concern and have been since our inception. Clarifying our immediate tasks is vital, and to this end, IS is publishing later in this issue a number of comments offered as the beginning of a discussion on the issues involved in the CSE.

For those not already members of the CSE, apply to your local regional convenor or to the National Convenor, 19 Greenfield Street, Dunkirk, Nottingham.
