Growing Soviet social-imperialist (socialist in words, imperialist in deeds) activity in Australia is a clear indication of the growing contention between this superpower and its rival, American imperialism: a contention which does not ignore Australia and its vast mineral wealth. In their quest for superiority over the now declining American superpower, the Russian ruling class is betraying the heroic past of the Soviet people, using a facade of socialism to cover its exploitation.
As E. F. Hill has written: “the menace of U.S. imperialism is comparatively clear but the menace of Soviet social-imperialism is not yet so clear.” (Imperialism in Australia, p. 129) This fact makes Soviet social-imperialism the more dangerous of the two superpowers, and therefore the greatest threat to the Australian people and world peace.
Examples of this Russian expansionism have already become obvious in Australia. Russian spy ships (“fishing vessels”, “tourist liners”), are a more subtle example of this. Russian warships gather in the Indian Ocean. It is no wander the Soviet representatives did not vote in the U.N. to make the Indian Ocean a peace zone. This becomes a direct threat to the Australian people, as does the Soviet “research installation” proposed and approved for Tasmania.
The well-known “Khemlani affair” offers evidence of governmental dealings with Soviet social-imperialism – if it’s not one imperialist, it’s the other. “Arab sources” were to provide $4,000,000,000 through the Moscow-Narodny Bank. (See Hill’s Imperialism in Australia, Chapter 8)
The Soviet social-imperialists make no secret of their claims on Australian resources. This was shown when Basov, the Soviet ambassador to Australia, stated his interest in our iron ore, through his reference to the Pilbara “pearl”.
The workings of Soviet social-imperialism are made easier by the local Australian comprador traitor class. The national bourgeoisie vacillates; that is, its hesitant learnings toward the working class, against imperialism, are overshadowed by its ultimate fear of the working class. This vacillation results in sections of the national bourgeoisie prostituting themselves to the imperialists and becoming compradores.
On the other hand, the workers as a class cannot vacillate in this way. Their class position renders it impossible. In the process of production, controlled by the imperialists, they are the most exploited. The avenue of becoming compradores does not present itself, hence their opposition to imperialist domination is complete and absolute. The alternatives for the working class are either continued exploitation or national independence and socialism. Hence the working class forms the backbone and leadership of the struggle against imperialism.
Within the comprador class there are far-sighted elements which recognise the decline of American imperialism and are already seeking out positions of influence with Soviet social-imperialism.
These traitors are being helped by the even more treacherous traitors, Clancy and his cohorts, who head the “Socialist” (without socialism) Party of Australia. This scum is paving the way for Soviet social-imperialism through its activities and publications. For example, Survey, one of their front journals (Clancy is on the editorial board) recently boasted of inquiries it received from Australian capitalists concerning trade with the Soviet Union.
... every imperialism ’interested’ in a potential victim must have beginnings with that victim; it cannot simply absorb the victim in one bite.” (Imperialism in Australia, p. 93)
A recent and direct example of these beginnings was exhibited by the dealings of Heine Brothers, an importing and exporting company with extensive connections with the Soviet Union. Early in May Heine Bros. hosted a Soviet “trade” delegation an its tour of Australia. The mission was headed by V. L. Malktvieh. Chief of the Main Technological and Engineering Department of Foreign Trade, and s member of its Executive Council. Other members included A. Chervinski, Chief Engineer of the Main Technological and Engineering Department, Ministry of Foreign Trade, V. F. Krylov, Chief Engineer,Technological Department, Ministry of Coal Industries; V. P. Elisjev, Chief of the Patent Department, Science Research Institution; A. V. Kolesnikov, Chief of the Technological Department, Ministry of Non-Ferrous Metals; I.T. Zonenko, Deputy Chief of the Main Department for the Supply of Oil Products; I.V. Malishev, Director V/0 Licensintorg.
One wonders how many of these people represented the KGB?
One also notes the number of high-ranking technicians of which this “innocent trade mission” was, composed. We can be sure that this was no ordinary trade delegation. It was part of Soviet social-imperialism’s open attempts at claiming Australian natural resources, as well as part of its industrial espionage against U.S. imperialism. This is evidenced by the presence of technicians having specific expertise in coal, oil products and non-ferrous metals.
Items on the agenda for discussion were the dry quenching of coke, reciprocal technological research and matters to do with titanium and magnesium (magnesium is used in the production of nuclear reactors).
There was also an explicit map of Australian resources in the conference room, marking out areas containing industrial minerals and rocks, major metals, alloys and gems, etc. We could ask what further items were discussed in Perth and Sydney by this Soviet social-imperialist delegation. Their visit included discussions at various CSIRO divisions. There is no doubt that within the traitor state apparatus, incorporating CSIRO, there are also “progressive” and far-sighted traitors who are eager to try out the latest style in imperialist masters, Soviet social-imperialism.
The above is an example of the beginnings of Soviet social-imperialism. But already there are examples to be followed by ourselves, examples of the Australian people’s struggles against this more dangerous imperialism. Patriotic building workers and students caused Clancy, an agent of Soviet social-imperialism, to back down from a proposed speech at Melbourne University on, you guessed it, “detente”.
After this defeat inflicted on Soviet social-imperialism’s Australian protege, they tried again. This time it was one of Clancy’s bosses, Saprykin, a consul at the Soviet Embassy, who tried to speak, on detente once again. The meeting was disrupted by Australian patriots, and Saprykin was only allowed to speak after his treacherous role was exposed to the audience. Such victories will be repeated, every time Soviet social-imperialism attempts to raise its ugly head. The Australian people, who constantly fight against American imperialism, are not going to let the great threat of Soviet social-imperialism go unchallenged.
U.S. IMPERIALISM OUT! SOVIET SOCIAL-IMPERIALISM STAY OUT!
