The first issue of the Hammersmith Socialist Record appeared in October 1891. The Record was a short monthly paper, consisting of an initial untitled editorial article (similar to the Notes on News in Commonweal), followed by list of lectures, outdoor meetings, and publications of the group. Many of the initial editorial notes, like those listed below, were unsigned, but presumably must have been approved by the Hammersmith Socialist Society as a whole, including Morris. The first edition was the only one to include a summary of the principles of the Society on the back cover.
